Where does DENS’ money come from?

DENS gets its funding from a variety of sources – from Supporting People (a government initiative), Charitable Trusts, lottery funds, fundraising events, donations from churches, businesses, schools, individuals, groups and Dacorum Borough Council.

However, DENS cannot obtain any long term financial support from the Government to fund its Day Centre and resettlement work on an on-going basis. Consequently DENS seeks both voluntary financial support and support-in-kind from the local community.

“The biggest contributor to DENS is not government, council or business, it’s volunteers giving of their time, free of charge”. DENS Board Member

From its inception volunteers have been centrally involved in the organisation and running of DENS. Currently there are many volunteers working in a variety of ways helping DENS to tackle homelessness, but DENS still needs willing, committed and reliable volunteers to help make a significant difference to the lives of homeless people in Dacorum. DENS welcomes volunteers who bring fresh ideas, energy, enthusiasm and commitment, to help DENS run efficiently and launch new projects.

Why Volunteer?

Research shows that volunteering can lead to a happier and healthier life style and people often develop more skills and confidence as a result of their volunteer work. Volunteering as a group can provide an excellent opportunity for team building exercises through activities such as:

  • Promotion/Fundraising
  • Working with DENS clients
  • Distribution of donated items
  • Administration
  • Practical Work

Make a difference for just £5 a month

Once in a while an opportunity arises to do something of lasting value for someone in real need - this is one such opportunity. DENS is asking if local people, groups, schools, businesses and churches can help in its vital work with homeless people.

DENS’ approach is long-term, and a regular gift, no matter how small, means we can plan longer-term work, secure in the knowledge that the funds will be there to deliver the services. With your help DENS can continue to make a difference, enabling us to establish resettlement work and develop the Day Centre into a permanent facility.

Setting up a Standing Order to DENS is a quick and easy way to donate. Click here to make a regular donation by standing order.
