News from DENS – September 2026

Dear DENS supporter,

Research shows that 3 out of 5 people experiencing homelessness classify as lonely – often made worse by the loss of relationships, community connections and opportunities to participate in everyday activities.

That’s a big reason why we started DENS FC. What began as a small kickabout involving just two or three clients has grown into a thriving football programme that promotes health, confidence and social interaction.

From DENS FC to Team England

This summer, DENS clients and DENS FC members, Chris and Levi, were selected to play for England at a football tournament in Poland associated with the Homeless World Cup foundation.

We are incredibly proud of them both for the outstanding achievement of representing their nation, as well as DENS, with such commitment, skill and passion.

To learn more, watch Chris’ story – who enjoyed his first ever trip abroad as part of the experience.

The Nutcracker…and a selection box of festive fun

We’re thrilled to announce that DENS Patron, Adrian Scarborough (Gavin & Stacey, The Chelsea Detective), and special guests are set to present a magical evening in support of DENS!

Join us on Sunday 6th December at Berkhamsted’s Centenary Theatre for festive stories, songs and comedy, including a reading of the classic fairy tale, The Nutcracker and The Mouse King.

Kyle’s award-winning journey

Kyle was first supported by DENS through work experience at The Kitchen Café. Having developed his skills and confidence, he then secured employment as a Project Worker with our friends at Sunnyside Rural Trust.

Since starting his role, Kyle has continued to go from strength to strength, and we’re thrilled to celebrate his recent achievement of winning Star Employee of the Year at the Step2Skills Adult Achievement Awards.

Kyle’s inspiring journey from volunteering to award-winning employee is a wonderful example of what can be achieved when people are given the chance to thrive.

Wendy’s 3 Peaks challenge

From 16-18 October, our CEO Wendy will be joining fellow Hertfordshire charity leaders to take on the National Three Peaks Challenge, climbing Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon.

Wendy has already started training for what promises to be a tough but rewarding experience. The challenge aims to highlight the power of collaboration between local charities while raising vital funds for DENS.
