Could you spare some time to help the community?
Our volunteers are at the very heart of DENS and underpin our services in so many ways to help us support those most vulnerable within our community.
As well as making a huge difference to us, volunteering has so many benefits. We have a range of volunteering opportunities across our organisation and would love you to join our team.
Ad-hoc Volunteering Opportunities
Events and Fundraising Volunteering
Be a part of the action by volunteering at one of our legendary events! From pop-up promotional stands to events like our annual quiz night, the Hemel Hillbuster or our flagship Sleepout, there are so many ways to get involved.
Event volunteering roles include:
- Registration
- Setting up equipment
- Serving refreshments
- Marshalling
- Awarding our participants as they cross their finish line with a cheer, medal and friendly smile!
If you can spare a few hours at the weekend to help promote our events, hand out leaflets or come along to one of our amazing events, our Fundraising Team would love to hear from you. For further information, please contact fundraising@dens.org.uk or call 01442Â 800268.
REGULAR VOLUNTEERING OPPORTUNITIES
Hostel receptionists
The Elms is a 44-bed hostel, run by DENS in partnership with Dacorum Borough Council. It provides emergency and short-term accommodation for single homeless adults. You will be the first point of contact for anyone coming to the hostel, responsible for operating the door entry system to allow people to enter/leave the building. Training will be provided.
• Do you have good communication skills?
• Are you patient?
• Are you 25+ years old?
• Do you have a few hours to spare on a regular basis: in the morning, the afternoon or the evening? Shifts are available seven days a week on a flexible basis. We particularly need Volunteers to work on a Wednesday, Friday and at the weekends.
• You would be required to undergo a DBS (criminal record check).
Grants Support Volunteer
We are looking for an enthusiastic volunteer who can make a regular commitment of 0.5 to 1 day a week to support the Grants Programme Manager to research grant opportunities and gather information to demonstrate the impact of DENS’ work.
This volunteer role can be undertaken remotely and/or in the Fundraising office, which is located in The Elms hostel, Hemel Hempstead.
For more information, please read the full Role Description.
For more information about any of our volunteering roles, email Lesley Springham via volunteering@dens.org.uk. Please provide a contact number so that we can phone you.
CSR Volunteering Opportunities
As volunteering opportunities are so limited within our services, we have been looking at ways where we can be fair and transparent to all the local companies who wish to support us.
We have recently launched our DENS Business Partner Programme and in return for a modest monthly financial commitment, we will prioritise CSR opportunities to our partners.
There are also many other great benefits of being a DENS Business Partner. Click here to find out more.
QUEEN’S AWARD
Without the time and commitment our volunteers offer, we would be unable to continue to support those most vulnerable within our community.
That’s why we are so proud that to have been awarded the prestigious Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service. This award recognises excellence in the voluntary activities carried out by groups, and is the highest award a voluntary group can get!
This is a true testament to the amazing people who volunteer at DENS and provide an incredible service to our community.
