Financial Empowerment Project Coordinator

Hours – 3 days a week

Salary – £28,000 full time equivalent

Reports to – Head of Community Services

Job summary

This project is a joint partnership between Dacorum Foodbank (DFB) / DENS, Liberty Tea Rooms and Community Hub (LTR) and Community Money Advice (CMA) to support Foodbank recipients or people at risk of needing the Foodbank in the future, who are facing financial difficulties to access the help they need.

The project will provide in-house individual welfare benefits/income maximisation advice and support for recipients, with clear onwards referral pathways for debt advice and wider life skills and support to our referral partner organisations.

In this way, the project will bring together key partners collaboratively to provide a pathway for vulnerable people to manage their financial situation, their wellbeing and to rely on the Foodbank less in the future.

Day Centre Support Assistant

Hours – 10am to 2pm, Monday to Friday

Salary – £13,624 (£13.10 per hour)

Location – DENS Day Centre, Queensway, Hemel Hempstead

About the role

We are looking for a support assistant at our Day Centre, to work with our client group, providing daily interaction, support, encouragement and guidance. You will need to maintain a safe and secure environment for clients and staff alike.

About you

  • You are willing to serve meals and refreshments to clients.
  • You can effectively liaise with staff when a client asks for support on issues such as Universal Credit, housing needs, homelessness.
  • You understand the principles underlying a quality and customer-focused service.
  • You are self-motivated and can manage your time effectively.
  • You are a people’s person and a natural team player, willing to work to a common goal.
  • You are passionate about making a positive difference to people’s lives.
  • You are IT literate.

Weekend Cook

Hours – Negotiable, Sundays

Salary – £13.50 an hour

Start date – ASAP

Reporting to – Sean Fitzgerald, Head of Accommodation Services

Location – DENS Hostel, The Elms, Redbourn Road, Hemel Hempstead

About the role

We are looking for a Weekend Cook to provide the evening meal at our 44-bed hostel on Sundays. The successful candidate will need to cook approx. 40 covers for 6pm. Hours are 2pm to 7pm, but are negotiable.

About you

  • Experience in cooking within a school, college or prison would be desirable but not essential.
  • It would be desirable if you hold a recognised catering qualification, or have equivalent experience, but not essential.
  • You can safely produce high quality hot meals, desserts and drinks for residents and staff.
  • It is essential to hold a current food hygiene certificate.
  • You are self-motivated and can manage your time effectively, prioritising different areas of work according to needs and deadlines.

Hostel Workers (Zero hours)

Hours – Zero hours contract

Salary – £12.60 an hour

Reporting to – Head of Accommodation Services

Location –The Elms, Hemel Hempstead, HP2 7AZ

About the role

We are looking to recruit temporary workers at our 44-bed hostel, The Elms, to provide cover across our team. The hostel aims to support clients at risk of social exclusion who are aged 18 and above, to establish their housing pathway into independent living.

We are looking for:

  • Someone with the passion and drive to work for Dacorum’s largest charity supporting the most vulnerable people in the area.
  • Ability and willingness to be flexible and work unsociable hours.
  • Experience is not necessary.

You can expect:

  • Flexibility to work around your other commitments.
  • A comprehensive training programme and the opportunity to gain knowledge and understanding of the range of support provided by DENS.
