About the role

We have an exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about bikes and wants to help vulnerable adults rebuild their lives. This role involves running our DENS Bike Shop, which is part of our social enterprise and training programmes – helping vulnerable adults in Dacorum to develop work skills.

We are looking for someone who ideally has retail experience and good knowledge of bikes, as well as a commitment to supporting people back into employment.

Temporary Hostel Workers

Hours – Zero hours contract

Salary – £11.65 an hour

Reporting to – Head of Accommodation Services

Location –The Elms, Hemel Hempstead, HP2 7AZ

About the role

We are looking to recruit temporary workers at our 44-bed hostel, The Elms, to provide cover across our team. The hostel aims to support clients at risk of social exclusion who are aged 18 and above, to establish their housing pathway into independent living.

We are looking for:

  • Someone with the passion and drive to work for Dacorum’s largest charity supporting the most vulnerable people in the area.
  • Ability and willingness to be flexible and work unsociable hours.
  • Experience is not necessary.

THE ELMS COOK

Hours – Saturday and/or Sunday, 6 hours (approx. 2pm to 7pm but negotiable)

Salary – £13.50 an hour

Contract – 1 year fixed term

Location – The Elms, Hemel Hempstead

About the role

DENS is seeking a Cook to provide the evening meal at The Elms during the weekend – either Saturday, Sunday or both days. The Elms is a mixed 44 bedroom homeless hostel in Hemel Hempstead. The successful candidate will need to cook 30-40 covers for 6pm on Saturday and/or Sunday. Experience in cooking within a school, college or restaurant/public house is desirable, but not essential.

Bank Workers

Hours – Zero hours contract

Salary – £11.65 an hour

Reporting to – Department Manager

Location – Hemel Hempstead

About the role

DENS are looking for Bank Workers, to be employed on a zero hours contract. We are looking for flexible staff with experience in working with vulnerable adults.

You could be working in our 44 bed hostel or our Day Centre, both based in Hemel Hempstead. You will be required to provide person centred support to individuals who could be experiencing a range of problems surrounding homelessness.

An enhanced DBS check is required.

Duties can include:
• Cooking lunch
• Monitor CCTV
• Upon arrival, reading Handover and keep Handover updated through your shift
• Hand out post to residents
• Get crash pad ready/clear up crash pad
• Answer phone and deal with queries
• Update and Issue new key cards
• Supply laundry tokens to residents
• Support the Key Workers
• Assist with breathalysing and drug testing
• Prepare the training room for meetings
• Maintain good relationships with residents and assist them with their day to day needs
