You can help rescue someone like Amy from fear and isolation this winter.
Amy and Ted found safety and support at DENS.
Amy came to us when she’d run out of options. With Ted beside her, she’d spent weeks trying to find somewhere safe to sleep. Doorways, hidden corners, places where nobody might find them.
The cold was brutal, but the fear was worse.
She and Ted arrived at our hostel, and for the first time in weeks, they were safe and warm. From that night on, everything started to change.
Today, Amy has a home, she’s working and has hope again. And Ted? He’s still right there with her. Only now, they walk through their own front door together.

“I thought my life was already over. Now, for the first time, I actually believe I might have a future.“
Ben came to DENS after leaving an abusive home, dropping out of school and carrying trauma he didn’t know how to carry. He felt lost. Like there was no way forward.
With support from DENS, Ben:
- Found safety at The Elms hostel
- Got access to counselling to improve his mental health
- Learned new skills through our Life Skills courses
- Discovered something he’s good at through the DENS Bike Project
Today, Ben is training to become a bike mechanic. He’s living independently. He’s rebuilding his relationship with his family, one conversation at a time.
None of this happens without people like you.

Amy escaped dangerous nights on the street.
Ben escaped violence at home.
Both found DENS.
We support people facing homelessness, poverty and social exclusion. Emergency beds. Hot meals. Therapy. Skills training. Long-term housing. We’re there through it all. But we can only do this with your generosity.
More people are arriving at our door than ever before. And our resources are stretched.
A gift of £25 or more will help us give someone a chance to feel safe and secure this winter. Please choose to make a gift to DENS.
