Our Bike Project, in Hemel Hempstead, provides training opportunities for local individuals experiencing unemployment, homelessness and low self-esteem. Our clients gain hands-on experience in bike repair and maintenance, problem solving and more; skills that can help them find employment within the bike industry or related fields.
The project takes in unwanted bikes, which are then reconditioned and sold at affordable prices. By encouraging the recycling and reuse of bicycles, DENS supports environmental sustainability and reducing waste. But that’s not all – we also provide a comprehensive servicing offer that’s rated 5 stars on Google.

Used a couple of times now and happy with the service provided. Communication is clear and any work required is clearly set out and priced. Options available to choose what work you want done or not. Turnaround time is quick - work completed within a couple of days when I’ve used them. Overall I would recommend.

This place is brilliant. Took in my old road bike I hadn't ridden in 10 years in for a service. It was in a bit of a state having sat in a garage for a decade. Brilliant service at DENS, first giving me a no pressure assessment and quotes with different options, and then in the brilliant service they've done. Picked up my bike today and I love it!
My bike needed some TLC, took it into DENS Bike Project and they sorted out the problem on the bike, and also told me about a couple of other concerns they had picked up, and fixed those to!

Service was amazing from Adam. I dropped my bike to Dens Bike Project at 10am, received quote by email 20 minutes later which I approved as the price was below what I was expecting and had another email at 1pm to tell me my bike was ready for collection. What more could you ask for?

Adam compiled fully itemised and costed estimates for 4 options of service/repair of my 10 year old bike. This is a fantastic service and the bikes were in great condition.
The service was first rate from the communication (bike enquiry form) response, the reservation and pick up at the bike shop.
The team were very professional, friendly offering good advice. They even offer a 6 month warranty free which was not expected and a nice touch.

Complete refurb of my mountain bike after years of neglect (as I never have time to do it myself these days). It wasn't cheap, but the service was professional, helpful and quick. I was able to donate an old bike which I hope someone is making good use of.

It’s a no brainer. Adam is always friendly and helpful. He is very knowledgeable and has sourced all sorts of small parts for my bike and provided a great service in very quick time with clear communication throughout. No issue he can’t solve! Adam couldn’t do more for the needs of my bike, Adam is extremely knowledgeable and is an expert in his field who persevered until the Bottom Bracket issue was resolved. He went beyond what was asked and repaired and adjusted many other parts on my bike without extra cost and kept me informed at all times of what was being accomplished. As an engineer myself I consider Adam as one of the best.

Excellent professional bike service done exceptionally quickly and expertly. I had a gear service on a relatively new road bike with very jumpy gears and everything was done to correct all problems and the bike as returned to me with smooth gears. Thank you

My bike enjoyed a thorough service I dropped and collected it the same day. Everything was tested, aligned and tweaked and a few bits replaced (I was offered quotes before choosing the options I wanted.) It was just like having a new bike afterwards. Delighted with speed and quality of the work.
Dens could not have been more helpful when I had a pretty odd request. Adam in particular was great help. Had my issue resolved in no time thanks to the very accommodating service. 5-stars without a doubt.

Sustainability
We are passionate about the environment and sustainability. Not only does the project help save bikes from landfill, we also recycle all used inner tubes and tyres! We’ve partnered with Velorim and Schwalbe for this, and we’re pleased we can offer this service to our customers and community. Just bring your tubes and tyres for recycling to the shop during opening hours and we’ll do the rest. There is no charge for inner tube recycling. For tyres, it’s pay as you feel.
The Bike Project is also an official free Refill water station. Simply pop in, ask us to fill up your reusable water bottle and help stop plastic pollution at source.
