The Foodbank provides a Dacorum wide service for people who are facing a short term crisis and have no food to feed themselves or their family. You can find out more about how the Foodbank works here.
To keep the Foodbank operational requires DENS to be given more than 35 tons of dried and tinned goods every year. These supplies come from a variety of sources, from across the community.
- Schools and Churches regularly provide items collected at their Harvest Festivals, and in some cases at other festivals such as Eid.
- Businesses, community groups and churches maintain food collection points throughout the year
- Food collections are held at Supermarkets across Dacorum during the year. This provides a collection point at the door of the supermarket and shoppers are asked to buy items from our shopping list and leave it in our trolley as they leave. The success of this initiative is dependent upon the generosity of the shoppers and having volunteers handing out leaflets and collecting food items throughout the day.
Whilst some of the food used in The Elms and the Day Centre come from the Foodbank we also benefit from donations of fresh food from supermarkets and caterers in the area.
To find out what items the Foodbank needs at the moment, see the link for the current High Needs list at the top of this page.
