Go Yellow for DENS Week

A huge thank you to everyone who took part in our Go Yellow for DENS Week from 13th-19th July.

Members of the public and local businesses brightened up Dacorum by wearing yellow to celebrate DENS work. This included Santander’s Hemel Hempstead branch whose staff wore yellow as well as kindly collecting food and monetary donations.

We also had a stall in the Marlowes on Tuesday and Thursday prom

oting our First Impressions Service. This vital service runs in conjunction with the JobCentre Plus and the job club at the South Hill Centre to provide interview clothing free of charge for any job seeker in Hemel. Thank you to everybody who visited the stall and donated, helping us raise over £500 across the two days.

The week was brought to a close on Sunday with our first DENS Community Prayer Day, bring local faith groups together in saying a prayer for our service users and staff. A huge thank you to the churches and parishes that took part, including Northchurch Baptist Church, Tring Team Paris, Adeyfield Free Church, Tring Baptist Church, Benefice of Langlei, and St John’s Boxmoor. Reverend Macey of Boxmoor Parish also kindly wrote the following prayer for the day, making it a really special occasion.

Loving God,
you have taught us not to think of ourselves only,

but also for the wants of others:
we bring before you all who are burdened and oppressed;
all who are afflicted by poverty, or worn down by disease and illness;
the weary and heavy-laden, and those who are in darkness or despair.
Help them all, we pray, to rest in you;
give them your peace which surpasses all understanding;
bless the work of DENS in our community,
that, strengthened by your power,
they may continue to reach out and help all who are in need.
We ask this through him in whom all our hungers are satisfied,
our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.
Amen.

A massive thank you once again to everyone who took part. We’re already looking forward to next year’s DENS celebrations!
