A rent increase, job loss or a relationship falling apart can be enough to turn someone’s world upside down, and so often the reasons are beyond their control.

Sarah and Buster’s story
Sarah was forced out of the family home when she was 18. Her mum was in debt and couldn’t afford to keep a roof over her head.
Sarah worked multiple jobs and rented a tiny bedsit. It wasn’t easy, but she managed. She was so proud to have created a home for herself and her dog, Buster.
But life is unpredictable. Just when Sarah thought she’d got back on track, her landlord drastically increased the rent. Unable to keep up, Sarah lost the home she’d worked so hard for. She spent months crashing on friends’ sofas and floors desperately searching for a new place, but the rising rents and refusal of landlords to accept Buster left her out of options.
As winter approached and hope faded, Sarah faced a terrifying reality – sleeping rough. Exhausted, cold and desperate, she considered returning to an abusive ex-partner just to have somewhere to stay. But one night, someone spotted her sleeping in a car and called DENS. That’s when Sarah’s life began to turn around.
Today, Sarah is safe and rebuilding her future.

As winter and the cold weather approaches, our focus here at DENS is providing warm and safe accommodation to those facing homelessness, poverty and social exclusion.
Our goal is to be a constant source of support, providing not only immediate relief, such as shelter and warm meals, but also the long-term support and guidance needed to help people take positive steps in their lives.
