DENS Participants at the London Marathon: Terms & Conditions

By accepting a DENS London Marathon place, I understand and agree to the following terms and conditions:

• I will be contacted via email, phone, SMS and post regarding the event and my booking to ensure DENS can manage the necessary administration and communication for my participation.
• It is my responsibility to check age restrictions upon applying for my place. I must be at least 18 years of age on race day.
• I acknowledge that the £100 registration fee I have paid for my place acceptance is non-refundable and cannot be applied towards my sponsorship target.
• This is a fundraising event, and I agree to meet the minimum sponsorship target of £2,000, excluding Gift Aid.
• I must give 100% of all donations raised online and offline, and all monies will be given to DENS at no later than 6 weeks post-event, and won’t be split with other charities.
• I will meet the following minimum sponsorship milestones, unless pre-agreed with the DENS Fundraising Team. If no funds have been raised by 16th of January 2026, DENS reserves the right to withdraw my place. In addition, failure to meet the minimum amount at 2 months prior to the event (as per milestones below), may result in DENS re-allocating my place to another participant. I will not be entitled to a refund and any fundraising to date will be retained by DENS as unrestricted donations.
  • 3 months prior to event date: £500 (25%)
  • 2 months prior to event date: £1,000 (50%)
  • 1 month prior to event date: £1,600 (80%)
  • On event date: £1,800 (90%)
  • 1 month after event date: £2,000 (100%)
• I acknowledge that any money raised cannot be restricted to a specific project/area of DENS. All donations are allocated as unrestricted income and spent responsibly, to fund our core services and deficit areas.
• I will act responsibly and adhere to the guidelines set by the Fundraising Regulator and will/ must clearly state that my fundraising is ‘in support of DENS’ and avoid any actions that could harm DENS’ reputation or contradict its values.
• If I organise independent fundraising activities (e.g. bake sales, pub quizzes), I acknowledge that these events are my responsibility and must be clearly stated as being conducted ‘in support of DENS’ and not by DENS and will request an ‘In Support of DENS’ logo if needed.
• I will obtain a licence from the appropriate local authority before collecting funds in public spaces and acknowledge that securing this licence is my responsibility, not DENS’.
• I will ensure any cheques related to sponsorship are made payable to DENS and sent to the DENS Fundraising Team (The Elms, Redbourn Road, Hemel Hempstead, HP2 7AZ) along with my name and the event name.
• I will be responsible for completing the official event registration system ahead of the specified deadline. Failure to do so may result in my inability to participate.
• I agree to inform DENS at the earliest possible opportunity if I need to withdraw from or cancel attending the event due to injury or other circumstances, allowing my place to be reassigned. Funds already raised will remain as donations to DENS.
• I consent to DENS sharing my contact information with the event organiser or third-party organiser to facilitate my participation. My information will not be shared with any other parties without my consent.
• Any costs incurred through travel, refreshments or accommodation are my responsibility. I am responsible for organising and paying for travel to/from the event and collection of my race pack. It is neither the charity or event organiser’s responsibility to make arrangements or to cover or contribute to any costs.
• I acknowledge the event may be physically challenging and involves risks such as discomfort, illness, injury or even death, and that I am responsible for ensuring I am physically fit to participate without undue risk to my health or life.
• I understand that it is my responsibility to wear the correct attire and ensure my equipment is up to participation standard.
• I understand that it is my responsibility to monitor my health during the event and I must stop immediately if my continued participation could create a risk of danger to others or myself.
• I must consult a doctor before participating if I have a medical condition or am uncertain about my ability to take part.
• I understand that DENS does not provide insurance for fundraising activities, and it is my responsibility to secure any necessary or additional insurance.
• I accept full responsibility for my participation in the event and agree that DENS is not liable for any injury, losses or damage arising from the event.
• I agree that any photos or videos taken during my participation may be used for promotional or marketing purposes for current or future DENS events.
