News from DENS – February 2024

We’re delighted to share some special words from an icon of stage and screen, Adrian Scarborough, who was the Guest Speaker at our recent Gala Dinner and had spent the previous months immersing himself across our services on a journey of discovery with DENS…

“DENS is a shining example of how you can start something very, very small with the Dacorum Emergency Night Shelter, and it can grow and grow into the most extraordinary charity with the most phenomenal outreach across the borough.”

A night to remember at our Gala Dinner

We rounded off our 20th anniversary celebrations with a special evening at the prestigious venue of Ashridge House.

The night was filled with poignant speeches, fine hospitality, exceptional entertainment and a great deal of generosity. Our thanks goes out to all our amazing guests, supporters, partners and staff for making the evening such a success.

There’s still time to book your appointment

It is estimated that half of UK adults don’t have a valid Will in place. Thankfully, our Make A Will Month scheme makes it easy to get that job done, and you’ll be supporting DENS instead of paying solicitor fees.

Appointments with our participating solicitors are still available, so we advise booking soon to avoid missing out.

Volunteers, we need you!

Our flagship cycling fundraiser takes place on Sunday 28th April, and we need an army of route marshals with us to ensure the event is as safe and enjoyable as possible.

If you are able to give up your time to support us on the day, please contact our friendly Fundraising team to find out more.

We’re an accredited Living Wage Employer

We are delighted to announce our latest accreditation, which shows our commitment to paying all staff the ‘real Living Wage’ for the real cost of living.

Wendy, DENS CEO, said: “This accreditation is a strong reflection of our values. It’s a duty to fair compensation and positive working conditions, which we believe are key forces behind the outstanding services we provide.”

Geoff’s amazing festive fundraising

A big thank you to our long-term supporter, Geoff – who inspired his local community to raise an astonishing £10,638 through his latest annual Christmas appeal!

Thanks to the overwhelming support from everyone who donated, we’re able to ensure that any local person facing crisis can access our services during these challenging times.
