News from DENS – March 2025

Dear DENS supporter,

Our Community Resettlement service supports people at risk of losing their homes through referrals from partner agencies and the local authority. I provide tailored assistance to help them access the financial support they need to sustain their tenancy and maintain their independence.

I am proud to support local people through this initiative, as part of DENS’ ongoing commitment to preventing homelessness across Dacorum.

Ellie and Dan’s story

For Ellie and Dan, home was unsafe due to their mum’s substance misuse. Referred to our Community Resettlement service, they received vital support to secure a safe new home. Their Key Worker helped them access temporary accommodation, essential household items and emergency food parcels.

Now in a council house, the siblings are receiving ongoing support to manage their finances and make meaningful progress in their lives.

London Marathon applications now open

We have 20 exclusive charity places available for next year’s London Marathon – taking place Sunday 26th April 2026.

Because we have limited access to these places, it’s so important for us to enlist exceptional fundraisers who are committed to making a big difference in helping rebuild the lives of local people facing crisis.

If you’re looking for a different running challenge, we also have places for the Royal Parks Half Marathon and The London 10K.

1,200kg of rubber recycled

Our Bike Project offers a tyre (pay what you want) and inner tube (free) recycling service, which has now diverted over one tonne of rubber waste away from landfills!

The project is committed to caring for our environment through bicycle recycling and repairing, while also empowering its participants through hands-on work experience and skills training.

A trio of successful events

We loved being part of the Watford FC Stadium Sleepout, working alongside the club’s Community Trust and other local homelessness charities – Herts Young Homeless, New Hope and One YMCA. The event was a shining example of collaboration among great local causes and has so far raised a huge £40k, which will be split evenly across the charities.

That same weekend, we were thrilled to be one of the headline charities at the Berkhamsted Half Marathon. We appreciate all the runners and volunteers who supported us, with a special thanks to Geoff Doyle, who took on the Fun Run and raised over ÂŁ2k.

Most recently, our sold-out Quiz Night was a jam-packed evening of fun and entertainment – raising over £3.5k and counting!
