Toby’s story

After a life-changing car accident left Toby with long-term health difficulties, he became overwhelmed by debt. Referred to our Cost of Living Support service, he received food parcels, budgeting help and a debt management plan to ease the pressure.

With support from a Debt Coach and new positive networks, Toby has regained stability and confidence. On track to be debt free within a year, he is preparing to move into independent accommodation and build a brighter future.

And the winner is…

We’re thrilled to have won the Community Champion award at the Inspiring Hertfordshire Awards 2025!

This recognition means so much to our team, volunteers and supporters who work tirelessly to make a difference for local people in need.

Vital funding for our Foodbank

We’re incredibly grateful to Tesco’s Stronger Starts initiative and to everyone in our community who voted for our Foodbank with their blue tokens at the checkout. Thanks to you, we’ve received £1,480 of funding from the Hemel Hempstead store and £1,000 from Tring!

This income will help our service continue providing essential support for vulnerable families and individuals who are facing food poverty.

Fantastic family fundraising

Congratulations to long-standing supporter, Geoff, who ran The London 10K on the year of his 80th birthday. He was joined by three generations of his family – Martin, Josh, Yasmine, Clare and Simon.

A heartfelt thank you to this amazing family team, who together raised over £4,000!

If you’re feeling inspired to take on a challenge of your own, we have places available for a range of exciting events.

Could you leave a legacy of hope?

Leaving a gift in your Will to DENS is a powerful way to make a lasting difference – rebuilding lives in the community for many years to come.

In October, we’re excited to launch a special awareness week, where you can find out much more about the incredible impact a gift in your Will can make. Keep your eyes peeled for this in our next newsletter and social media.

In the meantime, discover a little more here.

Calling all Co-op members

There’s still time to choose DENS as your local Co-op cause. The funding raised when you shop will help clients at our Bike Project develop their confidence and professional skills as they gain valuable hands-on experience in bike repair and maintenance.

Plus, every month, five Co-op members could also win £500 for themselves and an extra £5,000 for their chosen cause.
