Make a change or give up something you enjoy during Lent, and donate the money you would have spent to help local individuals and families facing crisis.
Give up your posh coffee, playing a video game or your favourite snack. Anything goes! Your donation, no matter what the size, could help towards giving a family an emergency food parcel or someone a warm bed and a hot meal.
Pledge to support DENS this Lent by requesting your DIY collection box. Simply email fundraising@dens.org.uk or call 01442 800268, and we’ll post one out to you.Â
DENS began in 1998, when one of seven local churches would open its doors each night to provide hot food and a safe space to sleep to anyone who needed help during the harsh winter months. Click here to find out more about our history and just how far we’ve come.
Here’s our Alex…
He’s giving up the thing he loves most…a posh takeaway coffee!
Alex will be donating the money he saves from avoiding his regular trips to the local coffee shop.
By choosing to support DENS during Lent like Alex, you will be helping people facing homelessness, poverty and social exclusion in your local community.
What is Lent?
Lent is a period of 40 days during which Christians remember the events leading up to the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, whose life and teachings are the foundation of Christianity.
Christians believe that giving up something during this time represents Jesus Christ’s sacrifice when he went into the desert to pray and fast for the 40 days before later dying on the cross.
DENS has a strong history with faith groups, and it was at local churches where the foundations of our charity began.
Last year
- 10282 people received food from our Foodbank (4258 were children)
- 163 people received temporary accommodation at our hostel
- 81 people made a positive move on towards independent living
