Joe Dempsie
Best known for playing Gendry in the award-winning series, Game of Thrones, DENS is delighted to have Joe on board as our first official ambassador.
Joe has really got stuck into his new role since starting in late 2019. He has spent time at our hostel, The Elms, talking to our residents about their stories and getting a tour of our dog-friendly facilities. (Below, top left)
Joe took part in our flagship Sleepout in 2019 and 2021, swapping his cosy bed for a sleeping bag. Not only did he help us raise awareness of those sleeping rough during the cold winter months, Joe raised thousands in sponsorship. (Bottom left)
I’m proud to be an Ambassador for DENS and do my bit to raise awareness of this awesome local charity, as well as highlight the issues of people facing homelessness, poverty, and social exclusion.
Swapping his blacksmith gear in Westeros for a smart tuxedo at our 2019 Gala Dinner, a Game of Thrones Monopoly board signed by Joe raised an amazing £850. (Top right)
Although the pandemic brought our summer 2020 fundraising events to a halt, Joe was the first to get involved in the 2.6 Challenge – setting the task of feeding himself for no more than £2.60 for a full day. Thanks to generous donations from his fans all over the world, this raised an incredible £5,725.
Joe also got involved with our 2024 Gala Dinner by offering an exclusive prize for the auction – a chance to spend ‘a day in the life’ with him. This raised a brilliant £300, and the day was thoroughly enjoyed by the winner, Seb. (Bottom right)
